Travel Tips
(See also Athens pages).
• Rent a car ahead of time if you don’t want to be disappointed in high season.
Some islands really do need a car or moped to be appreciated properly. Island
buses tend to be good however, but not on all islands, and they are fairly
spaced out. Local taxis are often few, can get booked up, again, especially in
high season, and you don’t necessarily find them on arrival at the port or
airport.
• Sometimes hotels will have their own (free) car service or minivan to meet
you on arrival – check before you get there.
• On ferries, the air conditioning can be fierce so carry a sweater. Coffee is
good but food usually pretty diabolical. Loos usually clean and plentiful
especially on the larger ferries. Dolphins etc have numbered seats – some
large ferries do, others don’t.
