Hanging Out
Cafes, bars, cool locations to wander about in
Wandering generally is out, for security reasons. Get there safely, sit tight, enjoy and get home. That said, there are still places to go….and lots and lots of restaurants.
With your minders (if you have some), try out “the Wall Walk” on the other side of TV Hill. Park your car in the village at the bottom, and scramble up the hill to reach a path that takes you to the remains of Kabul city wall. Walk along the path next to the wall for about an hour, to reach a viewpoint where you can see a panorama of the city on both sides of you. Return via the village to end up in the Babylon Gardens.
You could also check out the Kabul Golf Club, situated under the steep wall of the Qargar Dam, looking down the gently-sloping valley towards the capital. Tournaments, including the “Kabul Desert Classic” (currently on its third round, with bids for places in it going to charity), are held approximately three times a year.
The Qargar Dam is also one of the capital’s favourite picnic spots.
