The original owner, Rahim Walizada, won a prize at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005 for his superb quality, chic contemporary rug designs.  Part of a family of carpet dealers, Rahim used to have an outlet in Manhattan (the Chak Palu designer carpet gallery on Fifth Avenue), but is now back in Kabul, from where exports all over the world seek him out. Rahim used to run the Anar restaurant (in Kabul), is passionate about design, aesthetics and Afghanistan.  And the passion shows. 

Many of the carpets are made to his own unique designs and colours, using traditional methods, woven by rural women in a partnership to help them women earn a decent, culturally-relevant living.
