Conversations Overheard….
In the elevator in the Mall of the Emirates… Two impeccably-dressed Arab gentlemen to two ChI ladies in western dress and of indeterminate nationality: “Do you happen to know which floor the food courts are on?” Ladies: “No, sorry, afraid we don’t.” Gentleman turning to companion: “Of course not – what a question to ask! Everyone knows that ladies don’t eat! Now, if we’d asked them where Dior is, of course they’d know!” Mutual laughter and goodbyes.
In the gold souk, an emancipated Egyptian woman dressed in fairly brief sports wear had arranged to meet a friend in one of the shops, totally forgetting to change into more appropriate (read, covered up) clothing for the location. While waiting for her friend (another Arab) to arrive, she listens unashamedly to the chatter of a group of heavily veiled Emirati ladies at the other end of the shop. Unable to resist any longer, she said to them, in Arabic, “Aren’t you hot in all those black robes?” Quick as a flash, one replied “Not as hot as you will be where you are going!”
“ShEherazade Stories”
Dubai herself is a complete creation – a story unto itself. ShEherazade could not possibly invent anything as incredible!!
